About Me

Hello !

I’m Katie and I wanted to share a little bit about myself.

I’ve been Hairdressing from when I freshly turned 17 years old, giving me a lucky 20 years in hairdressing, and still counting. I started as an apprentice and I just loved being within the salon environment, to me it felt like a place of fun, happiness and somewhere to create or release the artistic flare within.

After I finished my apprenticeship I was lucky enough to open my own salon with my Mum (Deirdre) & Sister (Joanne). We merged our names together and called ourselves “Dejark”.

What can I tell you about running my own salon…..  wow what a journey that look me on. I wouldn’t change a thing and I cherish so many great memories within the shop with our full time apprentice, part time hairdressers and our clientele. Within that time I studied Makeup artistry, Business management & training and assessment. These are things that I hold so dearly as I love to teach and I also wanted to keep my artistic flare burning and develop strong foundation skills to prevent it from all falling apart.

After 5 years in salon we all wanted to have a change in our lives, and that’s where magic grew bigger for me. I started to do more weddings and freelanced in mobile hairdressing and then I went into the direction of Film & TV. I was lucky to work along side many actors, directors, producers and crew with amazing talent and the thrill of working onset is more than I can explain. If you ever have the opportunity to work alongside industry greats then I definitely recommend you to have ago at it.

After working within the Industry for a few years I wanted to further my makeup skills within the Makeup Prosthetic Industry. I completed a full workshop with Sharp FX in Melbourne, Australia and I absolutely loved it. (You can have a little read in my blog on the adventure of creating my own gargoyle bird on my sister).

This then pulled me into an industry that was fast paced long hours and so much fun working alongside so many artistic people and sharing the passion of art. This is where magic opens in a part of yourself to keep on learning and creating and of course I always bring everything I learn back into hairdressing and reflect on how to make all things hairdressing magical.

I then Decided to have a family and in the prosthetic world of makeup artistry its not recommended to use the products while pregnant so I gave it away for the time being and opened a salon from home. I now have 2 beautiful little boys who are the world to me and I am enjoying mum life. But with every artist there is a flare that needs to keep burning and this is where I refused to stop. so while being a mum and working from my home salon, I have produced a hairdressing course for those who need or want a little boost in their hairdressing life. Maybe for some who didn’t get that training they were crying out for and just wants to keep going. I am here for YOU. I want to be your girl who has your back and helps you along your career path.

I absolutely love to educate. the knowledge I have gained over the 20 years of hairdressing, Makeup artistry and being able to work in multiple locations allows me to share knowledge and procedures I have done and learnt.

I’m excited to share your journey with you, I hope you love the course I have created and I am so excited to see what magic and artistry you develop and produce from here.

Sending positive vibes your way,

Katie xx
